COSY COCOON
A growing interest in security and warmth gave rise to the cocooning trend of duvet dressing, an all-encompassing aesthetic prioritizing layering and coverage. CLASS LOOK
Popularised by the late 1980s and inspired by cult noughties television that Gen-z is in the process of reviving, this season’s preppy aesthetic champions the mini skirt set, school loafers, and varsity appliqué signalers. Key colours Peacoat and Burgundy drown this season’s focus on berets, brogues, pleats and houndstooth branding. Look to Vivienne Westwood and Alice + Olivia to teach a perfect lesson in embodying a preppy school girl look.
OUT TONIGHT
An ending to an era of lockdown calls for an era of partying and excess. An atmosphere drenched in Rich Gold, Silver, Copper, and Hot Pink reinstalls the importance of a maximalist attitude, notably inspired by feather trims, volume sleeves, gem embellishments, and metallic notes. Softcore has birthed and championed the ermergence of the seasoned luxe lounger, a central theme of cushy moods and textured aesthetics. At its core, knitwear co-ords, midi dresses, and newly trending sartorial Pj sets bridge the gap between outerwear and homecore backed by lush key colors Cream Pink, Winter White, and Beige. YOUR MAJESTY
A newfound interest in opulence amplifies the core of a palatial aesthetic adorned with royal references and stately silhouettes. The Regency period processes into this season with an emphasis on voluminous skirts, jewel-dripping headsets, and bead detailing. Sara Wong and Marni are at the forefront of the new Victorian era.
CLASSIC CAPSULE
The perfect counterbalance to the maximalist approach that has threaded into this season is a return to basics and the generational love for simplicity. Pared-back detailing and streamlined silhouettes of classic key colors Winter White and Caviar continue to inspire capsule wardrobes and counteract social movements with timeless reliability. Look to N21 and Victoria Beckham for forever pieces.
BARELY THERE
Risk is all the rage. We are talking skin on skin, side of skin, and an extra dosage of skin. Leather and sheer absolutely adorn corset waist belts, thigh-high boots, and cut-out mini dresses that are here to bare it all. The statement harness becomes a key element to hook the eye of the beholder, exposing undergarments, open backs, and chainlink closures. GCDS and Courrèges are key contributors to an induced sex appeal.
RETROCORE
References from the 1960s and 1970s eras of disco-oriented nostalgia continue to reign into the season, characterized by grounding earth tones Rust, Sunflower, and Faded Denim. The draw of psychedelia creates an escapist paradise that channels the transcendence of an old-age wearer into an outlet for modern expression. Key visuals include tonal co-ords, flares, puff-sleeve mini dresses, and headscarves. Wool and metallics counterbalance florals and paisley, creating an optic, groovy attitude. Anna Sui and Vivetta dominate the mini shift, while Prada perfects retro print.
REBEL REBEL
A wave of rebellion translates itself onto the scene via an excess of leather, all-black looks, and societal indifference. Modern day punk girls have grasped control of the basics of fashion, making leather trousers and blazers staple items for the average wearer. Simone Rocha and 16Arlington, alumni of the pretty girl with an edge scene, harness the irresistible mood of the moment with the duality of feminine aura.
