SPRING / SUMMER 2022 TRENDS

MAXIMALIST MOVEMENT

A craving for dopamine dressing inspires a maximalist approach to statement fashion tailored sharply and drenched with embellishment. Key colors Sharp Green, Lupine, and Haute Red are seen in flares, split-hem trousers, and boxy, printed shirts.  Dior Homme, Rick Owens, and Etro lead the call for celebration, requiring a reinforced importance of optimism in resistance to a period of neutrality.

FUNCTIONAL FIT

The working wardrobe is again reimagined softly, with a continued focus on relaxed fits and breezy fabrics. What is now defined as a wardrobe essential, the unstructured suit is updated with stretch knits and complemented by cotton blend co-ords grounded in function. Key colors Winter White and Bone Brown retain simplistic sets, while Orchid Hush updates the silhouette for a soft spring appeal. Linen and hemp crowd soft layers, mixing textures enough to create a sporty yet refined appeal. On the runway, Giorgio Armani and Hermes provide the best new basics for a work-at-home luxe lifestyle.

HEAVY ON HOLIDAY

With a lift on restrictions and an overwhelming wave of optimism encouraging a return to the sea, this season’s beach-ready co-ords and textured fabrics satisfy the overriding demand for a long holiday. Tie-dye and floral prints splash onto Bermuda shorts, slouchy hoodies, and vests tailored for summer days drenched in Violet Tulle, Mellow Green, and Super Lemon. Look to Fendi, Paul Smith, and MSGM for top getaway looks.

ATHLETE ESSENTIALS

Workouts blend workwear, blurring the line between casual clothing and technical use. Tracksuits are paired with oversized hoodies, gilets, and mesh accents in Estate Blue, Omphalodes, and Bright White. Louis Vuitton chooses a maximalist approach to the sport like appeal, while Casablanca pairs down the trend with post-workout soft utility.

OUTDOOR EXPLORER

Gorpcore continues to transition into this season’s inspiration of outdoor activity, placing an emphasis on functional fabric and technical accessories. Utility ranges from waterproof and fleece seen in anoraks, nylon shorts and overshoots fitted cross-chest. Camoflouge and checks are translated in key colors: Sagebrush Green, Rubber, and the season-bending Caviar. Reese Cooper and Undercover show the best tactical looks for a season reliant on the outdoors.

PRETTY IN PUNK

In hand with freedom is rebellion, notably illustrated in this season’s exodus to punk. An emphasis on leather complements expressionist signals of rule-breaking: facial piercings, dark motifs, and technical design. Look to Rick Owens and Burberry for a lesson in rebuking the norm and opting for grunge.
